Cancer Resistance

While twin and familial studies have shown that family history has an influence on the risk of cancer, it has not been tested previously in humans whether the opposite -- i.e. that there is also an inherited resistance to cancer -- is true. As there are very exciting data from animal studies that indicate that such mechanisms may be possible, indeed that they could have a broad impact on almost all types of cancer, we now suggest utilizing data from the NorTwinCan study to study possible genetic resistance to cancer. If there is a genetic component to cancer resistance, it may have considerable implications for our understanding of genetic cancer causes.
